报告摘要/Abstract

       High-pressure torsion (HPT) has become a very important procedure for the processing of polycrystalline metals with exceptionally small grain sizes. The HPT process is especially important because it provides an opportunity for achieving nanometer grain sizes having a high fraction of grain boundaries with high angles of misorientation. This presentation describes the historical background to HPT and then outlines the different hardening characteristics that may be achieved in various metals, the potential for overcoming the paradox of strength and ductility.

作者简介/Speaker’s short biography

Terence G. Langdon is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Southampton in the U.K. and Professor of Engineering Emeritus at the University of Southern California in U.S.A. He received a Ph.D. from Imperial College, University of London, and a D.Sc. from the University of Bristol. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea and the Academy of Sciences of the Bashkortostan Republic in Russia. He received honorary doctorates from Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University and the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was the recipient of the Blaise Pascal Medal from the European Academy of Sciences, the Lee Hsun Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Honorary Medal “De Scientia et Humanitate Optime Meritis” from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Acta Materialia Gold Medal. He has published extensively with over 1000 papers listed on Google Scholar having more than 62,000 citations and an h-index of 121.
