报告摘要/Abstract:

Cold and epithermal neutrons have wavelengths and energies well matched to a broad range of dynamical phenomena in condensed matter. In this talk I will give a brief overview of neutron scattering techniques, illustrated by appropriate examples of recent work with emphasis on nanostructured materials, clathrates and other nanoporous systems, catalysts with supported nanoparticles, and nanoliquids. I will end with some suggestions about how to go about planning neutron scattering experiments and submitting proposals to international facilities.

报告人简介/Brief introduction of speaker:

David Long Price is a professor of Research Center for Extreme Conditions and Materials: High Temperature and Irradiation (CEMHTI) in Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), France. He is now a deputy editor of Applied Physics Letters. He got his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Cambridge University. He used to be the Program Officer for Neutron Facilities in U. S. Department of Energy, the Executive Director of High Flux Isotope Reactor and Center for Neutron Scattering in Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Director of Intense Pulsed Neutron Source and Solid State Science Division in Argonne National Laboratory. He is a fellow of Neutron Scattering Society of America, American Physical Society and Institute of Physics, UK. His research activities include neutron scattering, magnetic materials, energy conversion and storage materials, amorphous alloys and glass transition. He has published more than 260 SCI papers in internationally recognized journals, including 2 in Nature, 2 in Science and 23 in Physical Review Letters. He was invited to give more than 180 Invited Talks in international academic conference.
